From size to placement, here’s how to find the right rug for every space.
Living Room Rugs
Your living room is the natural place to gather with friends and family—and the perfect place to showcase a rug you really love.
THE SIX INCH RULE
Make sure your rug can accommodate all your furniture by following the 6” rule: leave at least 6” of rug space on each side of your furniture—or allow each furniture piece to cover at least 6” of the rug.
GO BIGGER
When deciding between two rug sizes, we always recommend choosing the larger size to make the room feel more open and add breathing room to your layout.
CREATE AN ILLUSION OF SPACE
Make your space look larger—and well-defined—with an area rug that can easily fit all your furniture. Our rugs are thoughtfully designed to coordinate with our upholstered furniture collections.
Dining Room Rugs
A dining room rug can be a conversation-starter—as well as add warmth and texture to your space.
ANCHOR YOUR SPACE
Anchor your dining table with a spacious area rug—8’ x 10’ is the standard size for tables that seat 4-6 people, while larger tables with 8-10 seats would best fit a 9’ x 12’ rug.
GO BIGGER
We recommend a rug that extends at least 24” on each side of your table—make sure there’s enough room to pull back chairs without hitting the edge of the rug.
EXTENDABLE TABLES
If you have an extendable table, select a rug that can accommodate your table at its longest length.
Bedroom Rugs
Set a relaxing, comfortable tone by framing your bed with a cozy, textured rug (or two).
GET CENTERED
The size of your rug will change how your space feels—a larger area rug will make your room feel larger if there is at least a foot of rug space extending on each side.
CONSIDER ALL ELEMENTS
If you have furniture at the foot of your bed, like a storage bench, make sure to choose a rug in a larger size to accommodate it.
FRAME YOUR SPACE
Rugs can be used to frame the space around your bed and nightstands—place two smaller runners along each side for a unique touch.
